In The Mask 3, the story returns to the chaotic world of the magical mask that transforms whoever wears it into a zany, unstoppable force of mischief. Years have passed since the mask last appeared, and it is now hidden away in a museum as a harmless artifact. However, when an ambitious and unlucky cartoonist named Alex Turner accidentally stumbles upon it during a late-night cleaning shift, his life changes in an instant. The moment he puts it on, Alex transforms into a green-faced whirlwind of cartoon physics, wild humor, and unpredictable powers. At first, he uses the mask’s abilities to turn his dull life around, winning over crowds with outrageous public stunts and making his artistic dreams come true overnight.
But the mask’s reappearance draws dangerous attention. A cunning crime boss named Vincent Crowe, obsessed with ancient legends, learns about its powers and is determined to claim it for himself. With his network of armed goons and a mysterious sorceress who understands the mask’s origins, Crowe launches a relentless pursuit of Alex. As Alex struggles to control the mask’s chaotic energy, he discovers that it has a mind of its own — one that enjoys trouble far more than playing the hero.

Meanwhile, the supernatural guardian of the mask, the trickster god Loki himself, returns to reclaim what was stolen from him. Loki’s presence brings even more madness to the city, as his unpredictable nature makes him both an ally and a threat. Alex is caught in the middle of a surreal three-way conflict: the relentless crime syndicate, the mischievous god, and his own inability to resist the mask’s temptations.
The film’s comedy and chaos explode in a series of over-the-top sequences — high-speed chases through the city where reality bends like a cartoon, slapstick battles against armed henchmen, and an outrageous nightclub showdown where every patron gets temporarily “masked.” The line between reality and absurdity blurs completely as Alex learns that the mask’s true power can either corrupt or inspire, depending on the wearer’s heart.

In the climactic battle, Alex must face Crowe’s forces in a visually insane showdown where buildings stretch like rubber, weapons turn into harmless toys, and gravity seems optional. Ultimately, Alex manages to outwit Crowe with the mask’s unpredictability but also realizes the danger it poses to the world. Choosing responsibility over power, he willingly returns the mask to Loki, who vanishes with a mischievous grin, promising they will meet again.
The story ends with Alex walking away, back to his normal life, but now filled with confidence and creativity he never had before. Yet, as the screen fades to black, the faint echo of maniacal laughter hints that the mask’s madness may one day return.
